The sandwich, a snacking staple that's being reinvented

While pizza may still be France's favourite snack in 2024, the sandwich remains a staple of their lunch breaks. To continue to win over customers, it is moving upmarket and following new consumer trends.

Fast food and snacking continue to gain ground in France. Inflation hasn't changed a thing, quite the opposite in fact. According to the Speak Snacking study carried out by the Sandwich & Snack Show, market sales are set to rise by more than 11% between 2022 and 2023.

Sandwiches still hold a special place in the hearts of the French. It remains in the top 4 of their favourite savoury snacks. What's more, as part of a dynamic sector, new trends have been emerging since the start of the year, allowing it to reinvent itself.

Indeed, the number of occasions on which snacks are consumed has multiplied: breakfast, 11am snack, lunch, afternoon snack, aperitif, dinner...

The places where food is consumed have also diversified. Today's snackers eat at the office, in traditional restaurants and in the street. Sandwiches meet today's consumer needs. They are convenient to eat anywhere, and provide an inexpensive all-in-one meal. They can also be adapted to all shapes and sauces.

While eating fast remains the number one expectation of snacking consumers, speed is no longer enough. The French want to eat quality products, even when eating on the run. The trend is to eat healthily, while enjoying themselves. The French are increasingly demanding when it comes to what they eat. They want sandwiches made with quality ingredients. *

The new Lubrano sandwich bread range

As part of this new trend, Lubrano, which specialises in premium bread baked in a stone hearth oven using sourdough produced daily, has launched a brand new range of sandwich loaves in April 2024. The range is made up of 9 sandwich loaves with different sizes, ends, colours, inclusions and toppings.

The aim: to offer quality products that stand out from the crowd and meet everyone's needs.
